Luxury Cruise - You Deserve It

Whether you’re accustomed to the finer things in life or just want to pamper yourself for a week or so, booking a luxury cruise can be a real treat. A look back to the early days of vacation cruises when they were all considered a luxury cruise.

In the early days, trans-Atlantic travel by boat took a minimum of four days, but often took seven to 10 days. During the harsh winter weather in the North Atlantic people were somewhat reluctant to spend that kind of time on a boat, especially since the use of trans-Atlantic jet travel trimmed the time of travel to hours instead of days.

Shipping line owners would use their boats to take people who could afford it on a luxury cruise through the southern seas. But with so much ship and so few passengers, prices were considerably high and only a very few could afford it.

To bring passengers back to ship travel, companies began buying smaller ships to accommodate vacation travel. Since they cost less to operate, the rate was low and began attracting regular vacationers. When the interest began to grow, so did the boats.

Travelers Attracted to Celebrity Cruises

Many cruise lines still offer a luxury cruise and to entice more passengers, they often offer celebrity cruises with a famous author, actor, or performer so that people may be more willing to spend extra to be in a relatively small environment with a famous person.

To some other travelers, a luxury cruise means having the amenities they do not have at home. A large, well-appointed stateroom with the finest linens and personal service may be included along with dinner at the captain’s table to make them feel extremely special for the duration of the cruise.

A person may have to save for several years to afford the type of pampering available on a luxury cruise, but once on the ship they have the anonymity of no one knowing the sacrifice they made to be there. To their fellow passengers, they are one of the club and welcomed into a circle they may usually see from the outside only.

Still, to those well-heeled vacationers, it’s like an extension of their home and a level of luxury to which they have grown accustomed. They want to take a luxury cruise vacation, because it means not giving up the standard of living they are used to!
